Little Big Planet Recall

Character from Little Big Planet Sony is eating dirt today because of a world wide recall of their upcoming Little Big Planet release; the highly anticipated platforming title due for release this Tuesday. Apparently all deliveries have been halted because of references to Islamic text in the games sound track. Gamers are reeling over the news since this is one of the largest recalls in recent history.

Sony was quoted as saying “during the review process prior to the release of Little Big Planet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur’an. We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologize for any offense that this may have caused.”

Although this will delay the release of the game, Sony has stated the game will be re-released the week of October 27th.

Very, very strange. Why? Are they afraid of Islamist response? Muslims don’t tend to mind the Koran being quoted.

This is the more ridiculous and absurd reason for a recall. If it would have been text from the Bible they would not have recalled it.

People need to get over themselves. A quote from a book in a game or song, regardless of which book it is, is not going to end the world. As others have already responded, supersensitivity and political correctness is getting to be a serious pain in the @ss. It’s a game, not a religious argument or statement. WOW! I suppose the designers and composers of the game should begin their penance for their sins (right!). God bless everyone, even Sony.

Well I think the larger issue wasn’t the fact that they were Muslim based lyrics but that they were about killing others, and death in general… I believe had they been more appropriate Sony wouldn’t have worried about it.. but when the US the terrorized from these types of extreme groups it makes it a much more sensitive subject

jholmes you got a good point… but the fact of the matter is just that people are scared of what another group might think because we live in an overly politically sensitive world today. All it is is an avoidance of a lawsuit on Sony’s part in a sue-happy world.

Yeah I can agree with you there.. I think if the songs weren’t religiously charged the violence in them would have been alright with Sony.. Certainly the lyrics are no more violent then you see in Grand Theft Auto, etc

on the internet, we have seen a backlash against both IP and hypersensitivity, with abundant success rather than failure, which is the basis of their claims that they should have power over other people’s property.

I agree with jholmes except i want to clearify that the lines that were quoted in the song weren’t about killing other people, but the end of the world where everyone on the planet, including the muslims, will have died(at least thats how i think that they see the final days as, someone please correct me if im wrong)

To be honest religion should be kept to oneself and i agree with sonys recall it was very appropriate for themselves to stand by, well…. no religion or culture or gender race and all of that, they are a there systems are wolrdwide so to say yeah will keep the song in then christians will say well we want a song in there its only right and you get back to the political correctness soo go Sony… i look forward to the relase of the game…

I’m not against Sony for what they did but if it were a christian, hindu or scientology quote they would have done nothing. Oversensitivity!!!!!! if the quote ticks some people too bad, the world should not conform to the preferences to a few, they just shouldnt buy the game if they dont like it.

Is it possible that this is just a coverup for a bigger fault in the game that they are ashamed of??????

I Agrre with Artie.
It is incorrect to have the Qur’aan recited while there is music being played.
The other thing is that Sony was both being Politically correc as well as using this as a publicicty stunt I’m sure.
As due to he recall it might make more people want to actually buy the game due to it have some type of issue with it.
This boost advertisement.
Think about it. Besides it being advertised normally, such as Commercials and Newspaper advertisements, it ends up being News Highlights.
This gives bigger public viewing and advertisment.
Also, it’s not paid advertisement so it’s much better.
Publicity!!!

You know this is just rediculous for the people who could care less about the religon and are missing out on a sweet game, a re-call is a little exsessive they should just re-vise the game or even put some sort of update to take the offensive lyrics out. But none the less I’ve been playing Little big planet for some time now and havn’t even noticed the lines and I don’t know many people who would have.

As a gamer this is lame but I understand how Sony has to cover their butt a little.

But for real the soundtrack to this game is dope and sony didn’t intend on putting these lyrics in for their religous belife’s but for the fact that the song is probably sweeeeeet!!!

I think that they should go ahead and sell the “offensive” version. Personally, I quite like things that are offensive, irreverent, and otherwise prone to baiting out the sissy-pantses of the world.

I’m truly more “offended” at the Koran (Qu’ran, Quran, whatever) than any outside content. However, I don’t begrudge anyone the right to indulge in such foolishness. It’s just one more thing to make me appreciate my own life.
