Baseball Legend, and Boston native Curt Schilling has officially announced his retirement this week from America’s pass time. Moving on to other endeavors, it seems Schilling will be putting his time into his video game company 38 Studios. Founded in late 2006, 38 Studios is currently working on an MMO title that, in this gamer’s humble opinion sounds promising.
The MMO that is currently in development is code named “Copernicus.” Schilling is working with some serious talent for this project, two of them highly notable. One is Todd McFarlane, you know the guy who created that little comic called Spawn. The other is R. A. Salvatore the New York Times best selling fantasy author. The two will be working on bringing the MMO to life and head up the creative direction of the game.
Schilling has been quite clear about his ambition with 38 Studios, as he has stated their goal is “to redefine conventional multi-player gaming as it exists today, and nothing less.” Although it seems almost as odd as a pastry chef becoming an Olympic athlete, this career change seems promising for Schilling. With the talent he has commissioned for his MMO project, it would certainly seem he means business.
In case you haven’t heard of it there is this little website called Hulu..
I very rarely come across people who haven’t heard of Hulu, and when I do I must promptly tell them about its awesomeness. Apparently this infatuation of mine is one the whole country shares, because Hulu is poised to become top dog among streaming video sites.
According to Nielsen, Hulu is currently number 2 on the list of top video streaming sites. While other top video sites were not doing so well in the month of February, Hulu had stellar numbers. Last month was a 42% increase in its number of viewers, and a 33% increase in streams. This boom in viewership has been partially attributed to their popular extra terrestrial Super Bowl ad.
YouTube is still in first for top streaming video sites, but I can’t help wondering if they are beginning to sweat with the announcement of these numbers.
With as much success as Resident Evil 5 has had, it seems we can expect another installment in the famed Survival Horror series for sure! The only question is when? When Resident Evil Code Veronica was released we had to wait five years for Resident Evil 4, and then four years for Resident Evil 5. Safe to say we will have a similar span of time to wait for Resident Evil 6, right? Nope, try Eight years!
In an interview with FiveFWD, Resident Evil producer Masachika Kawata said “it could take anywhere up to eight years, but hopefully only four.” If Capcom does confirm they will be doing Resident Evil 6, my fingers are crossed for four. Eight Years is a long time, and the fan boy in me can’t wait that long!
As part of a small defense (8 seasons straight), she has protected common men from the enemies of the nether regions. Now, the lovely Alyssa Milano will be joining another elite force of other worldly defenders, as part of the cast of Ghost Busters the Video Game.
Alyssa will be playing a museum curator and an expert in the field of Sumerian cultures, Ilyssa Selwyn. Written into the plot after Sigourney Weaver turned down her chance to reprise her role, Alyssa will be taking her place as leading lady. With an all-star cast of all the original actors returning to voice their characters, Milano will be a nice addition.
Expect Ghost Buster in July of this year on Multiple Platforms.
Yeah folks it’s true, Max Payne is coming back. Not the lame live action Max Payne, but the CG Max Payne we all love is returning. Expected to be released this winter, Max Payne 3 will be spread across multiple platforms.
Currently in development with Rockstar Vancouver, the third installment in the gritty franchise is said to be a new chapter in Payne’s life. Following the events of Max Payne 2, Payne is older now and retired form the police force but still up to his meddling ways. Returning to the themes of the previous games, Payne will once again be at the center of a plot based on corruption, and conspiracy.
It’s been awhile since we have seen or heard any information on the next installment in this franchise since Max Payne 2. Good news for the fans, we will be seeing Max Payne 3 this winter, and on multiple platforms.
Today the Twitterverse was buzzing over an announcement made by CEO and CO-Founder of Twitter Evan Williams. The announcement was that Twitter was to implement Premium Accounts (two words that will live in infamy) as their long awaited business module. The story was broke by the not so respected BBspot.com, and suddenly it was everywhere; to bad it was satire.
Apparently the post was written to mock Twitter for having no business model for the 3 years of its existence. although there are a few things in the post that are a dead give away that it is a satire piece, that didn’t stop it from spreading like wild fire. The story got Re-tweeted faster than dirty celebrity photos.
Shorty afterward it was revealed that the story was a hoax, and the joke is on the Twitter community; as it is still somehow being Tweeted.
It’s no surprise that the PS3 has not been doing to well in terms of sales. There are a number of factors working against Sony’s console, one of them is its bulky size. When matched against a console like the Wii that is compact and easy to move, it doesn’t stand a chance. Another factor is its price. With the sagging sales we can’t help but wonder when Sony will be making a price cut.
OK so you have heard all this before and you are wondering where this is going! Well…according to some new marketing stats from EEDAR, it appears we can expect a sales rebound for the PS3 next year. With the help of a price cut, EEDAR believes PS3 could seriously bounce back. As of now we have heard no official statement from Sony on this, but maybe with this news we will.
I think bottom line it comes down to the games. We have seen good games sell consoles before, this was certainly the case with Resident Evil 4 and the Gamecube. Sony has a good line up of games ahead, and cutting the price now could mean a pretty nice sales boost.
One of the most anticipated MMORPG’s to be released, Star Wars the Old Republic is currently being developed by BioWare. The latest in a set of documentaries, the developers discuss the basic plot elements of the game as well as some class dynamics.
Apparently, the plot line of SWTOR is completely dependent on the choices you make. As the game progresses you will be given a series of choices that will effect the plot line. The developers have said you will be creating your own personal Star Wars saga, or as Yoda would say “Much plot line dynamics, we have!”
As of now, SWTOR is rumored for release this year, but the actual release date is unannounced. In previous years, the pairing of LucasArt and BioWare has been successful; this MMORPG looks to continue that legacy!
Since the first glimpse of that glorious leaked trailer there have been rumors about BioShock 2 and what we can expect from it. Yesterday new info was released but could only be considered speculation at the time. Today the details for BioShock 2 have been confirmed as valid, thanks to ShackNews .
Confirmed! Confirmed! Confirmed! Here is what you can expect from BioShock 2.
The game is set 10 years after the first BioShock.
There will be a multiplayer mode, but no details were given.
The Big Sister is a grown-up Little Sister, and she’s hunting you.
Some levels take place on the sea floor outside of Rapture.
The Big Sister will periodically pop up after you kill enough Big Daddies. Her arrival is apparently signaled by a Little Sister singing a song.
The Big Sister is described as fast and “the hardest thing in the game.” She’ll utilize telekinesis to throw objects at you or use them as shields.
Your drill overheats, and cannot be used constantly.
As a Big Daddy, you’ll be able to do that nifty shoulder bash move.
Upgrade trees are now more diverse.
The Incinerate plasmid allows you to throw a fireball or shoot a stream of fire, depending on upgrades.
Plasmids can now be combined. For example, mixing Incinerate and Cyclone Trap will result in a flaming trap.
Weapons and plasmids can be used at the same time.
You can now heal damaged turrets and bots.
Players will explore Fontaine Futuristics, which is where the Adam energy is harvested from Little Sisters. Through this, you will learn how the Adam is recovered
