PS3 sales skyrocket with release of Slim

The PS3 SlimIt seems that Sony is well on its way to having the most success console relaunch in history! The numbers are pouring in and the PS3 Slim is breaking records world wide in sales. A week has barely passed since its release in the UK and it is reported that Sony has already seen a 1000 percent increase in sales.

It has been reported from numerous sources that the PS3 Slim has sold over half a million units world wide. According to these numbers Xbox and Wii are both getting smoked by Sony, who was previously being outsold by them 3 to 1.

The numbers on US sales for the PS3 Slim are still a bit sketchy but officials are expecting sales to do well. The general consensus has agreed that these sales express the long awaited desire for a slimmed down PS3 at a better price. Some contributors would say it should have happened much sooner.

AT&T iPhone 3G and 3G’s finally get MMS

iPhone whiteThere had been a number of rumors and speculation going around about it but MMS is finally coming to the AT&T iPhone 3G and 3GS. They will arrive September 25, which is a bit later than AT&T had promised but I don’t think anyone is complaining.

We’ve been working for the past several months to prepare our systems and network to ensure the best possible experience with MMS when it launches – and that launch date is: September 25 for iPhone 3G and 3GS customers.

Good news for the customers who have waited awhile for the service. Initially they had been up in arms about not receiving MMS when iPhone 3.0 OS was launched. A total of 29 carriers received MMS instantly but for some reason AT&T did not. The backlash was so severe that it eventually led to a lawsuit.

Vonage gets in App store while Google voice still being rejected

Welcome to Vonage land
In an odd turn of events, it was just announced that a Vonage App will soon be made available in the Apple App Store. The reason the announcement is odd is because Google Voice offers the same VOIP service that Vonage does but has been denied access to the App Store for some time now.

How exactly the App will work is unclear at this point. The Vonage press release did not reveal any details, except that the App had received approval from Apple. Vonage stated that the App is currently beta testing and that details on the general release will be out soon.

The question as to why Apple would deny Google Voice App Store access and approve Vonage still persists. Apple stated that Google Voice would be contradictory to the services they already offer, so why then does Vonage have access to the App store when it offers a similar service? From here we will have to see how Vonage will fit into Apple’s plans.

eBay sells Skype for $2.75 billion

Skype LogoToday eBay made the announcement that it will be selling its Internet phone service Skype. It was sold for a total of $2.75 million to an investor group led by Silver Lake. The E-Auction giant eBay purchased Skype for $2.6 billion in 2005, and after four years have decide it has not provided the synergies they sought.

The Investment group included Sliver Lake, Index Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, and the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) Investment Board. The group will take a 65 percent stake in Skype while the remaining 35 percent will be kept by eBay.

The sale of Skype had been expected for some time now. The New York Times broke the news that eBay was planning to sell Skype on Monday.
