Some of you may remember that last week we reported that the Motorola Droid sold some 100,000 units its opening weekend. This week it is being reported that the Droid has sold 250,000 units after its first week of release.
Although the Droid’s opening pales in comparison to that of the iPhone 3GS, which sold 1.6 million units in its first week, there are a few factors you must consider. For one the iPhone 3GS is a third generation phone, while the Droid is only a first. Secondly the iPhone 3GS launched in 8 countries, while the Droid only launched in the US.
Overall the sales are very positive for Motorola and Verizon, as well as the Android market in general, which is still fairly young.
