AOL Acquires Tech Crunch

In an effort to establish themselves as one of the top providers of tech based content online, AOL has announce that they will be acquiring tech news site TechCrunch. While the site will retain its editorial freedom, TechCrunch and all of its divisions will soon become part of AOL’s network of news sites.

Chairman and CEO of AOL, Tim Armstrong stated, “TechCrunch and its team will be an outstanding addition to the high-quality content on the AOL Technology Network.”

Founder and Co-Editor of TechCrunch, Michael Arrington, stated, “Tim Armstrong and his team have an exciting vision for the future of AOL as a global leader in creating and delivering world-class content to consumers.”

Further establishing themselves as a first class tech-centric content provider, TechCrunch will soon be joining the likes of Engadget and becoming part of AOL’s network of sites. While sites like Engadget and Joystiq are impressive in and of themselves, TechCrunch will undoubtedly become the crowned jewel of the AOL Network. Absorbing the rights to not only the site but its divisions and worldwide events, AOL will become more a part of the tech community and zeitgeist than ever before.

Although AOL has hinted at some of their intentions for TechCrunch, the terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.
