Competition might be thought of as beneficial to the technology market. Yet it is highly unlikely that the leaders at Apple and Google are complaining about the fact that their operating systems, iOS and Android respectively, are continuing to dominate the tablet-computer field. According to recent figures from In-Stat, that dominance is set to last until at least 2017.

The superiority of these operating systems, which are found in Apple’s iPad and iPad 2 as well as various devices from Motorola, LG and HTC, has largely been established through their software applications, which are both numerous and available for a wide range of uses .
Additionally, devices using other operating systems, such as those made by Research In Motion and Hewlett-Packard, have suffered for several reasons, including a lack of support from software developers and hardware performance problems.
According to the research firm, the tablet market as a whole is expected to grow by leaps and bounds, from a reported 10 million shipments in 2010 to a projected 250 million for 2017.
The International Business Times reported that the HP TouchPad, a competing tablet computer, is being sold at highly discounted rates ever since HP discontinued the device in an announcement last week.
