Yet another app store. This time, for the soon-to-come Wii U! The store is said to be “full-blown,” and will offer a new experience for gamers— much like the iPad’s current storefront and setup.
Sometime between June and December of 2012 is the expected launch date for the Wii U (we were hoping it’d be a little sooner…), and demos can be expected at the upcoming CES in Vegas in a couple of weeks.
Each app sold in the Wii U store will be sold independently on the device, though it is uncertain how much each app will cost, or if Nintendo will even make money off of the store.
Matt from the The Next Web writes, “Nintendo’s offering is set to differ from existing gaming consoles in the respect that its tablet-like controller will be able to operate separately from the console itself, providing game developers with the option to deliver different apps and control options for gamers.”
And despite a reported $923 million loss by Nintendo’s mobile games the first six months of 2011, the app store for Wii U will hopefully be more successful—and maybe they’ll start to consider throwing Mario in there, as they have insisted, “Nintendo would cease to be Nintendo” if they created Mario as a mobile app.
