8-foot iNuke iPod Dock by Behringer

Behringer, a company based in Willich  Germany, has been around since 1989 and they are dedicated to building quality products at prices every musician can afford— except for maybe their most recent, the iNuke iPod dock, which is going for $30,000 (in case you couldn’t see for yourself, we circled in red where the iPod actually goes, seeing as it’s pretty much taken over by the gigantic 8-foot dimension of this speaker).

So you probably won’t be using this iPod dock at your next holiday bash, but considering it stands 4’ tall and 8’ wide, is over 700 pounds, and pumps over 10,000 watts of power, the price does seem justified.

The iNuke is part of Behringer’s launch of their EUROSOUND consumer brand, providing concert-quality sound. They plan on debuting it at the 2012 International CES exhibition, along with hundreds of other innovators and exhibitors.

In their press release they explained the EUROSOUND line as “fully embrac[ing] a modern, European design while remaining true to Behringer’s roots in professional audio engineering. Four distinct product lines will be marketed under the Eurosound name. The Home line brings a professional, live concert sound from the stage into the comfort of your own home.” The products are expected to have an underlying quality, with “double the features for half the price.”

Four different lines under the EUROSOUND name will be available with over 50 products:

-          The Home: generates professional, live concert sound into the comfort of your home

-          Live: amplify sound with mics and PA systems

-          Portable: hands-free speakers and headphones so you can listen to music anywhere

-          The Creation:for musicians to make great music by simply connecting your instrument right to your computer

Apple recalls defective first-generation units of the iPod Nano due to overheating flaw

On November 14, reports surfaced of numerous units of the first-generation iPod Nano – the version sold between autumn 2005 and December 2006 – being potentially susceptible to overheating due to problems with its battery. Multiple sources confirm that Apple is aware of the problem, and plans to recall the devices and replace them.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Apple issued a statement claiming that the batteries in these iPods may overheat, and that although this possibility is slim, it becomes more likely with age. Additionally, Apple also stated that the problem stemmed from a single battery manufacturer that produced hardware with an inherent defect.

Although the Los Angeles Times initially stated that those who turned in their iPod Nano as part of the recall would receive one of the newest versions of the device, Mashable reported that this was not the case. Instead, those with defective units will have their Nanos replaced with identical products.

Since the initial release of the iPod Nano in 2005, the device has been revamped and re-released several times. The current version of the device is considerably smaller than the original, which at the time was considered remarkable for being able to store 1,000 songs in such a compact package.

Facebook will integrate mobile photo and video editing

There have been rumors that Facebook is trying to come up with an Instagram rival, and today it is official: Facebook has acquired Digital Staircase to be the official photo/video editing platform. This means, unfortunately, they will be removing their previously made apps MovieCam Go for the iPhone 4/ iPod Touch and the MovieCam for the iPad 2 on December 5 (but if you’ve already downloaded the apps, don’t worry—you can still keep them).

The three-year-old startup has previously made apps for photo video and editing, letting users edit photos with filters or turning videos into high definition. The President, Hamilton Chong, also attended Harvard along with Zuckerberg

Digital Staircase announced, “We’re being acquired by Facebook to help bring these mobile innovations to a broader audience. Many things may change, but our dedication to immersive experiences will not.”

This news is exciting for Facebook users who don’t have access to programs like Photoshop and apps like Instagram, allowing them to edit their mobile uploads right from Facebook. This will also give Facebook some leverage to its competitor Google+,

Keep your eyes peeled for Digital Staircase’s future innovations and implementations.

October 24 marks the 10th anniversary of the iPod debut

Ten years ago today, the first two models of the original iPod – 5GB and 10GB versions – hit store shelves. Since then, much has changed in the tech universe, and Apple is now one of a few dominant players in the music device, mobile and computer markets.

According to TG Daily, the iPod is one of the products most responsible for Apple’s resurgence, which began with the device’s launch and continued throughout the 2000s. Products that followed, including the iPod Touch, iPhone, MacBook Pro and iPad only cemented the company’s status further.

The news source reports that although the classic version of the iPod is far less sophisticated than current models of the device, many of the features introduced in the 2001 device remain in its successors, including the iPod Nano, Touch and other Apple products that store and play music like the iPhone and iPad.

Recently, the Wall Street Journal reported that at the time of the iPod’s launch, the music industry was in a crisis, and that the device, along with Apple’s iTunes Store, were a great benefit to that entertainment sector.

Apple’s recent pricing strategies may be a long-term trend

Apple products had previously developed a reputation for being overpriced. However, according to the New York Times, recent changes to the company’s pricing scheme may indicate a new approach.

For example, the first iPhone, released in 2007, initially cost $499. Although a second-generation model that debuted the following year cost only $199, early pricing was considered restrictive and limited Apple’s early share of the smartphone market. The company’s exclusive deal with AT&T to carry the phone did little to increase its chances for success.

In 2010, Apple surprised customers with the $499 iPad, less than many comparable devices available at that time, and offered a $999 version of the MacBook Air, reduced from its initial $1,799. Additionally, its $199 16GB iPhone 4S was accompanied by a $99 8GB version of the iPhone 4 and an iPhone 3GS that is free with a new two-year AT&T wireless contract.

According to V3, the expanded launch of the iPhone 4S is scheduled for the end of October, and it will extend the phone’s availability to 22 new countries.

RIP Steve Jobs

Yesterday the world lost a true genius, comparable to the great Alexander Bell and Thomas Edison for his innovativeness and creative spirit that has reached out to nearly the entire world. Steve Jobs, you will forever be remembered as an inspirational leader who taught us that even something so simple as one idea can surely become a reality (with the right tools, of course).

Listening to our iPods and using our iPhones just didn’t feel the same today. These gadgets we’re so used to using day after day we take for granted, for Jobs is the reason we can operate such notable technologies.

Jobs changed the concept of music forever. His simple idea of being able to buy one song at a time grew into the iTunes/iPod revolution that it is today. And while music execs hated his idea, “Apple adopted an agnostic position on content: plenty of buyers filled their new devices with ripped versions of old CDs, or gray-market mix tapes and podcasts and remixes, or pirated full-length albums, which only grew easier to find online.” How we “shuffle” our favorite mixes makes for all our music-listening pleasure with our personalized jukeboxes that are the iPod.

Companies all over the world stemmed from Jobs’ great inventions. Famously, Jobs identifies with Apple, but he also spent a lot of time with Disney Pixar. Jobs acquired Pixar from Lucasfilm in 1986, and then later sold it to Walt Disney Company in 2006 for $7.4. billion. And then came Toy Story—a legend in and of itself; from then on it was a matter of the right story, because the technology was there. Pixar honored “[the] extraordinary visionary [of their] […] very dear friend [who was the] guiding light of the Pixar family. He saw the potential of what Pixar could be before the rest of us, and beyond what anyone ever imagined. Steve took a chance on us and believed in our crazy dream of making computer animated films.”

Not only did Jobs work with companies directly, but indirectly his inventions let businesses and startups evolve into the success they have become. Companies like Panic, who started out with $500 and a Mac, “[would] often daydream about Steve demoing one of [their] apps on stage[,] [and are] heartbroken to be in a world where that will never happen.”

Today, all around the world, we mourn a great man whose visionary will be remembered through his inventive products, impact, and technological revolution.

Rest in peace, Jobs. We are inspired.

The new iPhone 5 might not be the only thing released by Apple on October 4

We’re used to Apple rumors spreading like fire, as the past year has been filled with endless amounts of jib jab regarding the iPhone 5 release and all of its exciting new features.

But a new iPod, too? It was said that Apple would be announcing a 3rd little surprise along with the iPhone 5 release. And with less than one week away until the new 5 hits the floors, a John Doe from 9to5mac is reporting there will also be three iPod Touch systems introduced, as well as an iPhone 5 upgrade alongside the phones. Could it be true?

Both new iPod and iPhone 4 designs will be very similar to their previous model, but the model numbers will carry the letter “A,” meaning their variations are slight (N90A for the iPhone , N81A for the iPod).

The new iPod Touch models will be the same device overall, but white models are being thrown into the mix, adding them to the already established line of black models available in 8GB, 32GB, and 64GB.

iPhone 4 updates are little more detailed – the price will be reduced significantly, and the hardware will have minor upgrades. There is also said to be a “pay up front” iPhone service available for those who are fickle in their phone contracts and would rather pay as they go.

These are just rumors, but exciting news nevertheless for those who have been awaiting their precious upgrade or have been dying to terminate their existing service all for the beloved iPhone 5.

For those of us who went ahead and settled with the 4 because we could not take the rumors any longer? Not so much. Looks like we’re stuck with 2 more years of the iPhone 4.

Epson MegaPlex Projectors: digital big screen viewing for the iPod, iPhone, and iPad

As if it could get any better for movie-watching enthusiasts.  Epson’s latest projectors feature a dock especially for the iPod, iPad, or iPhone, taking movie watching to the next level for those who upload movies to their Apple devices.

The MegaPlex line features two projectors: the MG-850HD and the MG-50 that both use 3LCD technology. The devices also have 10W speakers with stereo sound. The MG-850HD projector supports up to 720p resolution with a brightness of 2,800 lumens—the MG-50 is a 540p resolutions projector with 2,200 lumens of light.

The convenience of the Apple gear dock is convenient for sharing content, whether for educational, professional, or personal use. And with the MegaPlex microphone input, users can narrate photo and business slideshow presentations.

“MegaPlex is the ideal big screen projector for the new digital lifestyle. Enabling consumers to share multimedia content from their iPod, iPhone, iPad, and a wide assortment of other digital devices, MegaPlex is changing the way movies, gaming, slideshows, presentations, music, and more are viewed by eliminating the confinement of a smaller screen,” says Jason Palmer, product manager at Epson America.

Expected to hit the shelves sometime this month, the MG-50 is selling for $699 and the MG-850HD will sell for $799.

Jobs steps down to focus on health, Tim Cook said to replace

It’s a shock to the world when such a beloved, dedicated genius leader who has changed the world in so many ways, resigns. But Jobs, as much as he keeps his personal life to himself, it is no secret that he has been struggling with health issues the past five years or so. His choice to resign was one that is much needed to allow more time to focus on his health.

“I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come,” Jobs said in a letter announcing his resignation.

Jobs’ legacy will live on through Apple’s innovations and his creative spirit. He is appointing Tim Cook, former Chief Operating Officer who has taken on Jobs’ responsibilities three times in the past, as CEO. Jobs will still act as Apple Chairman.

Under Jobs’ leadership the world has seen a revolution—Apple has undeniably transformed how the world communicates, listens to music, and works. The future of Apple is certain: Apple is here to stay, despite Jobs’ stepping down. The company currently has a net worth of $350 billion, as much as the 32 biggest euro zone banks altogether. And with the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 release coming soon, there are reasons to be excited.
