Max Payne 3 set for March 2012 release date

The hard-boiled crime drama game series Max Payne has been successful among gamers and video game critics alike, and had enough popularity to spawn a big-budget Hollywood film starring Mark Wahlberg. Series developer Rockstar Games recently announced the next title in the franchise, Max Payne 3, would be released in March of 2012.

According to USA Today, the earliest news of the third Max Payne game surfaced in 2009, but initial expectations of a release in the winter of that year met with unexpected delays that have not been resolved until now. The game will be available for multiple platforms, including the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

The Max Payne series has followed the exploits of its film-noir-indebted tough guy hero, a former police detective from New York City, through a plethora of violent situations. In this newest installment, Payne is working in the private security sector, employed by a rich Sao- Paolo, Brazil-based family. Its known features will include improvements to its “bullet-time” gunfight graphics, inspired by the Matrix films, as well as a multiplayer feature.

Gamasutra reported that Rockstar Games founder Sam House said of the new game, “We’re excited to show fans a modern version of Max that pulls them back into his dark and twisted story.”

May the force be with the Xbox 360 Kinect

Microsoft excitingly revealed its latest Xbox innovation at the Comic-Con panel today: the limited time Star Wars themed Xbox 360, displaying an R2D2 system and a C-3PO game controller, available for purchase this coming holiday season.

This custom-made 360 has the largest Xbox hard drive yet—320 gigs, and is sure to make fans drool at the thought of Kinecting in Star Wars fashion.

Rumors have circulated the past month or two, but when a Microsoft spokesperson was approached by the issue, he wittily responded, “as you know, rumours are rumours and we don’t comment on them. May the force be with you.”

People will also receive complimentary Star Wars Kinect games “Star Wars: Episode I —The Phantom Menace” along with their Star Wars system. Preorders are available today on Amazon for $449.

Tomb Raider – Underworld…Looking Better Then Ever

Tomb Raider Underworld

Lara Croft embarks on a new adventure in the 8th installment in the grave robbing saga, Tomb Raider Underworld.  This is the third game in the series that Crystal Dynamics has developed, and the plot of the new game will continue where Tomb Raider Legend left off.

The Demo which was released yesterday on Xbox Live, features the new environments, and game play that fans of the third person action shooter series can finally get a glimpse of.  In Tomb Raider Underworld the environments are totally interactive, and hold memory.  If Lara bends a shrubbery or breaks a tree branch it remains that way. The environments are meticulous in their design, and the development of Lara Croft has been just as detailed.  Croft is said to have over 2,000 animations, and contextual movements, and for the first time in Tomb Raider history she has been motion captured, and the developers used Olympic gymnasts to sculpt her movements.

In terms of game play the demo features the new combat system in which Croft will be capable of shooting at two targets at once, and be able to melee enemies by kicking or vaulting off of them.  The developers have also tweaked the platforming in the new game, in which the camera angels are more forgiving, and Croft will be capable of shooting at enemies while traversing planks, or hanging from ledges.

So load your guns and ready your daisy dukes because Tomb Raider Underworld will be in stores Nov. 21st. It will be released for PC, PS3, PS2, Nintendo Wii, DS, and Xbox 360.
